Naps in Controversy: Reducing Cognitive Risk but Possibly Hurting the Heart? A Guide to the Science of Napping | Sleepmaxxing

Are midday naps good or bad? How should you nap? A systematic review analyzing more than 1.86 million people found that habitual napping was associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality, cardiovascular disease, metabolic disease and cancer.

In particular, people who napped for more than 30 minutes per day had significantly higher health risks, while no significant risks were observed in those who napped for less than 30 minutes. Conversely, however, napping was also associated with decreased risk of cognitive decline and sarcopenia, and it is recommended that if naps are to be taken, they should be limited to 30 minutes or less.
